Notes: 1.  Because of omissions due to confidentialities etc, all sales figures are likely to be under-reported.  Consumption figures should consequently also be treated with caution.
2.   Omission of variable speed gearbox sales data by Germany for 2005-7 has rendered the EU totals for this product group rather meaningless.  As a consequence no sales or consumption data are shown.

This report is the sixth in a series published by the British Gear Association (BGA) to provide a statistical ‘profile’ of the European mechanical power transmissions industry.  It replaces an earlier series of reports entitled “Current Market Outlook” (up to 2001) which were based on UK data and statistical returns from Members of the European Committee of Associations of Manufacturers of Gears and Transmission Parts (EUROTRANS).

This report is the fourth to be published by the BGA showing sales/production and trade data for the ten countries that acceded to the European Union in May 2004 and the further two that acceded in January 2007.  The report also shows some data for one applicant country (Croatia).

This 2008 edition uses trade and sales/production data from Eurostat together with additions and corrections incorporated from earlier BGA reports.

The Report Contains:

  • 151 Pages in PDF format, including:

  • 19 pages of explanatory texts and notes including an explanation of which production and trade classification codes are included/excluded. The notes now show the new Combined Nomenclature (CN) and Harmonised System (HS) trade codes and descriptions introduced by Eurostat for 2007
  • 104 pages of numerical tables showing a compilation of all available Eurostat ‘Europroms’ sales and trade data values in Euros against all 55 PRODCOM headings.  Separate tables show sales/production, exports and imports for each of the current 27 EU Members and 1 Applicant country.  The tables are annotated to show which sales/production data have been suppressed due to confidentialities etc.
  • 117 graphs showing trends for 2000-2007 for all EU counties, under 10 Product Group headings.   In addition to sales/production, exports and imports, the graphs show derived balance of trade and consumption curves for the EU27 wherever practicable.  The pages also include graphs showing totals by product group for the ‘old’ EU15 and the ‘new’ EU12.
  • All historical data revisions provided for Eurostat for 2006 data.
