When selecting an engineering steel for a particular application, it is important to be able to understand how and why core strength varies from grade to grade.
Although there are literally thousands of engineering steel specifications, in practice most are either unavailable in small quantities or obsolete. In reality there are actually less than ten different classes of material ranging from ultra high-tensile grades, carbon steels, nitriding steels to surface hardening grades which will meet the requirements of a given application.
Having selected your material, problems encountered en route in producing the final component such as distortion may well be avoided by planning and simple understanding of material behaviour.
The Seminar will cover:
Introduction to steel production
