Seminar Programme

 

The seminar aims to give delegates an insight into the appearance and underlying causes of the various types of gear failure.

The day starts with an introduction to the basics of gear meshing and the concepts behind the calculations which try to guard against failure at the design stage.  This leads to a discussion of the mechanics of failures - illustrated by slides showing both the “naked eye” view and, when appropriate, the view under the microscope.

Delegates are then invited to try their hand at identifying the key features of some samples taken from real failures.  Please note that as this seminar is being held at the Design Unit, delegates will have the opportunity to see the full range of analytical equipment available for failure investigation work.
