Workshop Programme

The workshop is intended for gear users as well as gear manufacturers.  Derek Smith will look at the basic causes of gear noise and the path from initial gear design and manufacturing errors to the final noise generation.  He will demonstrate measurement techniques and analytical approaches and discuss the practical limitations and methods for reducing noise.  Derek’s aim is to enable delegates to understand what is actually happening and be aware of how to use various test methods to identify the causes of problems.

Participants are encouraged to bring related problems to the workshop and delegate numbers will be limited to allow group discussion.  No mathematics or computing experience is required.

The morning will be devoted to the main causes of noise and the relevance of Transmission Error together with demonstrations. The afternoon will look at practical measurement techniques and the economics of testing.

The Seminar will cover:

Participants are encouraged to bring examples to the workshop
