The workshop is intended for gear users as well as gear manufacturers. Derek Smith will
look at the basic causes of gear noise and the path from initial gear design and
manufacturing errors to the final noise generation. He will demonstrate
measurement techniques and analytical approaches and discuss the practical
limitations and methods for reducing noise. Derek’s aim is to enable
delegates to understand what is actually happening and be aware of how to use
various test methods to identify the causes of problems.
Participants are encouraged to bring related problems to the workshop and
delegate numbers will be limited to allow group discussion. No mathematics
or computing experience is required.
The morning will be devoted to the main causes of noise and the relevance of
Transmission Error together with demonstrations. The afternoon will look at
practical measurement techniques and the economics of testing.
The Seminar will cover:
Basic causes of gear noise
Measurement techniques and analytical approaches
Developing testing methods to identify the causes of gear noise
Participants are encouraged to bring examples to the workshop
