Business support and advice
The UK's Business Links offer a wide range of advice and information services in support of local businesses of all sizes. They are often able to provide subsidised advice via their own, or external consultants and/or can provide names of suitably accredited advisors (typically accredited via The British Accreditation Bureau

Market research
While the DTI's Web site provides useful press information (notices, speeches etc.) and also has details of all DTI publications in print, it is the DTI's re-branded "Trade partners UK" Web site that is now the real mine of information.
"Trade partners UK" is a partnership between services that were previously managed separately by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).
The Trade partners UK web site offers:
- Online Services
- A searceable on-line Events Database that can be searched by country, business sector, data or keyword.
- A Searceable on-line Export Opportunities database that can be searched by country/region, data, type of business opportunity and keyword.
- A searceable on-line database of Exporters' Websites which can be searched by country/region, business sector or information type.
- Under "About our services" on the "Trade partners UK home page", you will find links to:
- The UK Exporters database. British businesses can enter their details on-line into this database so that prospective customers using the database can locate them by industry sector/keyword etc. The service is free to British businesses and is a must for exporters. This service includes a free e-mail Sales Lead Alert service to alert you as to leads of interest to you in your chosen business area.
- Details of the Government's Information Centre at 66-74 Victoria Street, London (previously known as EMIC). This library is accessible by businessmen in person - or
research can be undertaken by the library staff. The Information centre has direct Internet access as well as access to all the major databases - either on-line or on CD.
- Much other information on researching and visiting new Markets, overseas investments and getting paid.
UK production, trade and manpower statistics are available from the Office for National Statistsics (ONS).

More experienced researchers looking for market or company information may wish to access proprietary databases themselves. Kompass
, Dialog
and Lexis Nexis
all provide useful on-line services at a cost. Less confident researchers and/or
those not wishing to subscribe to these databases may wish to use a contractor to undertake the work.
Promotion of the UK Mechanical Power Transmissions Industry
This BGA Web site was set up with the assistance of the DTI and BGA Members and is maintained by the
BGA to promote the interests of Members and to provide information to the UK industry. The Web site receives many 1,000s of 'hits' each month from all over the world with the
BGA Members' database of products and services generating many 'click-throughs' to Members own Web sites every week which in turn generate many more visits to Members' own Web sites.
The BGA also maintains Mailing lists for the benefit of Members' Special Interest Groups (e.g. research) which are closed to Members.
Sales leads
In addition to Trade Partners UK's Sales Lead Service, Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) is operated by the European Commission and provides Tender invitations and notices relating to a very wide range of goods and services.
