Orbital Gear Mechanisms: Member Focus Session

Title: Orbital Gear Mechanisms

Date: 6th March 2024

Time: 3pm - 4pm

Venue: TEAMS

Fee: Free

You are invited to our first Member Focus Session where BGA Member Mert Vadar from TR Transmisyon will be presenting his work on Orbital Gear Mechanisms.

This is a live 1 hour session with plenty of time for questions and discussion.

From Mert Vadar:

"Traditional planetary gear systems, featuring a central external sun gear encircled by planet gears and an internal ring gear, have limitations in size, weight, and load distribution.

They fall short in applications requiring compactness and weight reduction on various applications. The innovative Orbicular Gear Mechanisms (OGM), designed to overcome these kinds of constraints. OGM components include at least one face gear as a sun gear and one as a ring gear, rotating around a central axis, with an external planetary gear group connected to a carrier.

The usage of face sun gear instead of external one brings several ground breaking advantages. OGM excels in compactness by maximizing planet gears relative to reduction ratios, remaining significantly smaller than traditional gearboxes while offering enhanced load distribution.

It achieves substantial weight reduction, easily mounted with low backlash configurations. Furthermore, OGM change the direction of centrifugal effects on the planets, based on the perpendicular rotation axis to the gear mesh loads, enabling high-speed mechanisms.

OGM offers a promising alternative for many kinds of application to traditional planetary gear configuration, transcending industry boundaries and opening avenues for versatile applications."
