The Opportunity


We are looking for a Trainee Gear Technician to join our production team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with CNC machining or engineering experience who wants to build specialist skills in precision gear manufacturing.


You will start on day shift during a structured training period, learning our machines, processes and quality standards. Once trained, you will move to our late shift production team.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • CNC gear hobbing

  • CNC gear shaping

  • Precision inspection and measurement

  • Advanced gear grinding and finishing

This role offers a clear pathway into a highly skilled and in-demand specialist career.



Role & Responsibilities:

What You’ll Be Doing


Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set and operate CNC gear hobbing and shaping machines

  • Work with Gleason CNC gear cutting equipment

Machine Preparation

  • Select and install cutting tools

  • Carry out machine setups, offsets and tool changes

  • Ensure machines are correctly calibrated

Quality Control

  • Inspect components using micrometers, verniers and precision gauges

  • Ensure parts meet engineering drawings and quality standards

Problem Solving

  • Identify machining issues and help minimise downtime

Training & Development

  • Develop skills in CNC shaping, gear cutting and gear grinding processes

Continuous Improvement

  • Work with the production team to improve machining efficiency and quality

  • Enthusiastic candidates with good engineering aptitude and hands-on ability

  • Positive attitude and strong team ethic

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to learn specialist gear manufacturing skills

Qualifications

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English

  • Engineering apprenticeship or CNC machining training desirable but not      essential

    • Saturdays:       Time + ½
