APRIL COURSES AT THE BGA

GEAR WEAR & FAILURE RECOGNITION

Date: 1st April 2026

Time: 09:30 - 16:30

Location: Design Unit - Newcastle upon Tyne

Tutor: Brian Shaw & Chris Aylott

Fee: Non Member £450 / BGA Member £250

Please note this course is in person

The seminar gives delegates an insight into the appearance and underlying causes of gear failure modes. No prior gear knowledge is required.

It provides gear manufacturers and users with the necessary skills to examine, assess and recognise common gear failure modes. The seminar content is applicable to gear designers, gear service personnel, operators and users of valuable equipment, inspection and certification bodies who need to confidently examine gears and gearboxes and those new to the gear industry.

GEARBOX SYSTEMS PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS - LIVE ONLINE

Date: 1st & 2nd April 2026

Time: 9:30 – 12:30

Platform: TEAMS

Tutor: Jarek Rosinski - Transmission Dynamics

Fee: Non Member £350* / BGA Member Free

Please note this course is over 2 sessions. You will need to attend all sessions to complete the training.

Many reliability and wear problems in transmission systems are not directly associated with the design of the components themselves but are the result of system dynamics: starting and transient torques, self-excited vibration and the dynamics of the motor or engine and of the driven machine.  Particular characteristics of bearings, couplings and gearbox mounting can also significantly affect system performance.  Typical problems and solutions are discussed and instrumentation for troubleshooting noise, bearing failures, vibrations and in-service load measurement demonstrated.

GEAR STRESS ANALYSIS - LIVE ONLINE

Date: 22nd, 23rd 29th and 30th April 2026

Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm

Platform: TEAMS

Tutor: Rob Lambert -  Design Unit - Newcastle upon Tyne

Fee: BGA Member Free / Non Member £350*

Please note this training is over 4 sessions – you will need to attend all sessions to complete the course.

The Introduction to Gear Stress Analysis course is intended to give participants the confidence to implement ISO 6336 into their work for gear design and analysis.

During the course we cover the basics of the stress analysis method for contact fatigue (pitting) and bending fatigue, as well as investigating the aspects of the design which influence many of the major calculation factors from the method.

NETWORKING: TECHNICAL AWARENESS DAY WITH ZF

Date: 28th April 2026 - 10am - 3pm

Location: ZF Services. Central Blvd, Blythe Valley Park, Shirley, Solihull B90 8BG
