BGA October Training Courses
October is set to be a busy month for training at the BGA, with a full programme of courses available across both online and in person formats.
Whether the aim is to refresh existing knowledge, develop confidence in a specific area, or prepare for the next stage of your career, the October training programme offers a timely chance to get booked in. Online training is free of charge for BGA Members, while in person training is available with a significant BGA Member discount.

Fundamentals of Parallel Axis Gear Manufacturing - 21st & 22nd October 2026 - Bradford - BD5 8HW
The BGA are delighted to once again work in collaboration with Helios Gear School from the USA to bring their 2 Day Gear Fundamentals Course to the UK.
Helios Gear School's aim is to support companies to build a shop full of gear experts. The Gear School seminars are designed for entry-level gear manufacturing personnel including manufacturing management, engineers, supervisors, set-up technicians, operators, and quality control.
These intensive programmes cover the basics of gear manufacturing from cutting to finishing, then through final inspection.
With limited class sizes, this course provides the optimum learning environment for attendees new to the industry and those with experience in need of a refresher.

Gear Wear and Failure Recognition - 21st October 2026 - Design Unit - Newcastle upon Tyne
The seminar gives delegates an insight into the appearance and underlying causes of gear failure modes. No prior gear knowledge is required.
It provides gear manufacturers and users with the necessary skills to examine, assess and recognise common gear failure modes. The seminar content is applicable to gear designers, gear service personnel, operators and users of valuable equipment, inspection and certification bodies who need to confidently examine gears and gearboxes and those new to the gear industry.

Online Training
Gear Foundation 2 - 6th, 7th & 8th October 2026
This introductory course is suitable and appropriate for anyone who has completed Gear Foundation Part 1. We have found this introduction to Gears to be beneficial not just to staff directly working with gears but also those such as HR and Sales departments to ensure every member of your organisation a broad understanding of Gears and gearing.
This essential Gear training has been produced and will be presented by Gear expert Graham Penning over three 2 hour sessions.

Gearbox Fundamentals - Design requirements and essential components
Gear Lubrication Introduction
Gear Measurement - 13th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd October 2026 – Online
These sessions will include a short introduction on Teams before you access some video presentations individually and try some easy quizzes to test your knowledge.
Modules:
Introduction to measurement methods and radial composite (double flank) measurement.
Introduction to tangential composite (single flank) measurement and tooth thickness measurement.
Introduction to single element (helix, profile, pitch and runout) measurement
Introduction to single element (helix, profile, pitch and runout) tolerance standards and how to interpret results to a standard
Introduction to gear measuring machine calibration
Gear Geometry – On Demand – Always available
Gear geometry is thought to be complex and often considered a ‘black art’. This on-demand course will dispel this myth and provide you with a basic knowledge of how gears work and cylindrical gear geometry. No prior gear knowledge is required.
