October Gear Training and Networking Events at the BGA You Won't Want to Miss

October brings an exciting line up of events here at the British Gear Association (BGA).

Our upcoming training and networking events are an excellent chance for professionals in the gear and power transmission industry to sharpen their skills and grow their networks. Registration for all events is now open, so don't miss out on these invaluable opportunities.

All online training sessions are completely free for BGA members and the Technical Awareness Day at Birmingham University is free of charge to all.

NETWORKING

Technical Awareness Day: An Introduction to Transmission and Gearbox Design

14th October: Birmingham University, School of Engineering – Free to All

The day will explore the conceptualisation, design and analysis of transmission components and systems using the KISSsoft suit of design software tools. There will be several sessions covering the principal design challenges and how the core capabilities of KISSsoft can be applied to some real world applications - moving through from component level gear, shaft and bearing element evaluation to full system modelling and analysis. Focus will address both metallic and polymer gear design and analysis using the capabilities within KISSsoft to evaluate these cases.

In addition to the hands-on training, the Technical Awareness Day will also offer rich networking opportunities. Participants can connect with fellow BGA members and industry leaders, establishing relationships that may lead to future collaborations and innovations.

TRAINING

Virtual Gear Foundation Part 2

14th, 15th, and 16th, October: TEAMS - Non Member £350 / BGA Member £FREE

In today's fast-paced engineering and manufacturing landscape, mastering gear fundamentals is essential for professionals.

This course is not solely for engineers. It's also beneficial for team members in HR, Sales, and other departments. By learning the core principles of gears, you will be better equipped to communicate with engineers and technical teams. This knowledge fosters collaboration across departments, ultimately benefiting your organisation as a whole.

Gear Wear and Failure Recognition

22nd October : Design Unit Newcastle University - Non Member £450 / BGA Member £250

This seminar gives delegates an insight into the appearance and underlying causes of gear failure modes. No prior gear knowledge is required.

It provides gear manufacturers and users with the necessary skills to examine, assess and recognise common gear failure modes. The seminar content is applicable to gear designers, gear service personnel, operators and users of valuable equipment, inspection and certification bodies who need to confidently examine gears and gearboxes and those new to the gear industry.

VIRTUAL GEARBOX SYSTEMS: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

29th & 30th October: TEAMS - Non Member £350 / BGA Member £FREE

Many reliability and wear problems in transmission systems are not directly associated with the design of the components themselves but are the result of system dynamics.

The seminar will cover:

  • Tackling Unexplained Bearing and Gear Element Failures

  • The Dynamics of Gearbox Systems

  • Gearbox Noise and Vibration

  • Problem Solving using State of the Art Data Acquisition & Analysis Techniques

  • Wind Turbine Gearboxes: Type Testing, Instrumentation & Early Stage Troubleshooting

  • Gear Alignment Instrumentation (KHβ, Kϒ)

  • In-Service Unattended Load (Torque) Data Collection Techniques

We look forward to welcoming you at one of our events! Be sure to register early to secure your spot. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the BGA office. Let’s make this October a memorable month in the realm of gear training and networking!
