Are you passionate about apprenticeships? Are you involved in apprenticeships in your current company or have been in the past? Are you looking for a leadership role that can support your career (with not a huge time commitment) and give you satisfaction in being part of something great?
If so, or if you know someone who would be suited .....read on.....
The BGA Special Interest Group on Apprenticeships made a great start to identifying action needed to support the promotion of opportunities for apprenticeships. Without leadership (role of Chair) the Group have stalled activity - but BGA is keen to get moving on this again to support members in their apprenticeship programmes and to help develop pathways for future skills development. We need more support and a volunteer for a bit of their time in exchange for huge rewards of satisfaction of a job well done.
The current skills shortage in the UK has been identified by Members as a major issue in their business so this is something you do not want to miss being a part of! Imagine this on your CV? Supporting the Gears Industry to help develop the talent of the future! Visualise the success. The BGA needs you and your help. Let's make this happen.
So what's involved in the role of Chair?
Time commitment:
Supported heavily by BGA Admin, for the administrative needs of the group, the new Chair would be required to chair online meetings to help prioritise already identified actions. In reality for 2025, this could possibly be 2 meetings lasting 1 hour each and up to 3 meetings annually thereafter.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ideally this role is suitable for someone who has experience as an apprentice themselves or has worked or is currently working with apprenticeship frameworks and is keen to invest their passion in this area to work with others to generate and contribute to ideas. The Special Interest Group has already made a start in identifying barriers and setting a roadmap for action. We just need someone to chair the meetings. Kirsty and I do all the minute taking, organising delegates and administration of meetings.
To date, the group has identified a mission, vision and objectives statement. An initial survey has identified members who are currently working with apprenticeships, their training providers' provision and location and some data in relation to apprenticeship need.
APPRENTICESHIP SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
Mission:
"To empower members of the British Gear Association (BGA) in accessing apprenticeship opportunities, advocate for the inclusion of gear-related interests in apprenticeship frameworks and provide tailored training support to advance skills and knowledge within the industry."
Vision:
"We envision a thriving gear-related industry where every member has equitable access to apprenticeships, apprenticeship frameworks reflect the needs of our sector, and BGA serves as a cornerstone for fostering excellence through comprehensive training and support."
Objectives:
· Support Members on accessing apprenticeship support (signposting and peer support);
· Ensuring gear related interests are represented in apprenticeship frameworks;
· Support BGA providing relevant gears apprenticeship knowledge and skills training
If you would like to find out more or put your name forward for Chair or get involved in any other capacity, please email admin@bga.org.uk
We really look forward to hearing from you. We are so keen to get this moving again.
Best wishes and kind regards
