Sam Williams

Student Prize Winner

Sheffield

After completing a traditional engineering apprenticeship designing and manufacturing jigs and fixtures for the automotive industry, I found my passion for engineering lay in advanced technology so I immersed myself in full time education at the University of Sheffield.

Following a summer placement with JCB, a year in industry with Williams Advanced Engineering, work experience with Prodrive and volunteering as a Race Mechanic, I attained a first class MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. A large part of University was spent within the Formula Student team expanding my knowledge of design, manufacturing and leadership.

Naturally, my career highlight has been leading the Formula Student team as Team Principal in my final year to win the UK competition. Following my graduation from Sheffield in 2021, I spent my graduate period with Xtrac before moving to Red Bull Powertrains in July where I work in engine design
