Chair’s Report
Dear Member,
After taking over a Chair of the BGA in 2024, I am proud, to present this Annual Report to the Annual General Meeting of our Association. I am delighted to confirm that in 2024 our organisation delivered another successful year with an increase in Membership, and a positive financial performance. This is all thanks to the continued support our staff, colleagues and BGA Members.
The British Gear Association Membership continues to attract the best and brightest in the Gear Industry. In 2024, we welcomed 10 new members into the Association. This growth not only showcases the BGA's appeal but also opens doors for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing that elevates the entire sector.
2024 was a groundbreaking year for BGA Training, with over 1,100 delegates participating in our Knowledge Transfer Sessions; an incredible 83% increase from 2023. This upward trend not only highlights the rising interest in our programmes but also confirms our dedication to delivering high-quality educational experiences.
In addition to increased participation, our Training Programme expanded to include a “Gear Noise Data Interpretation and Diagnostics” course, created and led by industry expert Jarek Rosinski from Transmission Dynamics.
In 2024, the BGA had a remarkable year filled with enthusiasm and collaboration through our Technical Awareness Days (TADs). More than 250 delegates joined us for TADs at BGA Members’ Sempre Group, SMT, Design Unit at Newcastle University, and Hexagon MI state of the art facilities. Increasing participation in these events emphasizes the importance of staying updated on the latest developments and trends affecting the industry.
These events have not only showcased advancements in the Gear Industry but have also served as a vital platform for networking among peers.
At the start of 2024, the Association launched our Virtual Member Focus Sessions. This initiative harnessed the power of digital collaboration. With active participation from prominent BGA Members such as TR Transmisyon, Lloyds Register, and Victrex, the sessions welcomed over 150 delegates, sparking innovative discussions and shared learning experiences.
The recorded sessions serve as a beneficial resource that members can revisit for ongoing learning and professional development. These recorded sessions are now available in the BGA's online video library and on our Youtube channel, offering a treasure trove of information. They demonstrate the rich expertise within our community, providing crucial insights that members can access at any time.
In 2024 we were proud to fund a Research Project on “Non-Involute Gear Testing,” with BGA Member Dontyne Gears. The project reached its conclusion, and the report and recorded presentation are available to view now in the Member Only section of www.bga.org.uk.
2025 is already looking like another fantastic year for the British Gear Association, with the much anticipated “introduction to Gear Manufacture course” returning after a 6-year hiatus, and we hope to see you at an event soon.
Finally, I would like to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who contribute to the ongoing success and growth of our organization. Most obviously to all the course tutors and Committee participants who contribute significant time and effort into preparing and delivering courses and attending meetings, but particularly to Kirsty and Lynne in the BGA office without whose efforts to chivvy and cajole myself and other members of the team, none of this would happen.
Thank you again for all your support.
Yours sincerely
David Radley
Chair of The British Gear Association.
